About the role

This role is a great way to gain experience in HR and people management while learning how grassroots NGOs work. Your main focus will be recruiting new volunteers and making sure they are well qualified, well informed and well supported.

You'll recruit locally, nationally and internationally, using proven sourcing methods and your own creative ideas, and work closely with our Volunteer Coordinator and management team to build strong relationships with volunteers before and after their stay.

It's a fantastic opportunity for students on a year abroad or graduates looking for entry-level experience.

  • Follow our recruitment process, replying to enquiries promptly and sharing the information people need
  • Work with staff and coordinators to answer questions from potential volunteers
  • Report on applications and recruitment with the Marketing Manager
  • Run or support online interviews with candidates
  • Invite former volunteers to join our OCN Ambassador programme
  • Keep our ambassadors up to date, and set them tasks and goals
  • Run regular surveys of former volunteers and maintain alumni relationships

  • Organised activities: barbecues, games nights, the weekly volunteer lunch and more
  • A certificate of completion detailing your role, projects and dates
Skills & experience

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills
  • Experience working with people from different cultural backgrounds (desirable)
  • A mature, positive attitude and a good sense of humour
  • Flexible and enthusiastic
  • An organised way of working
Requirements
  • Age 18+ on arrival
  • Spanish: intermediate
  • Time commitment: 3 months
  • Older applicants are preferred
  • A current background check from your home country
  • Want to improve your Spanish? We can arrange classes before you travel (online) or during your stay.
  • Longer stays are preferred, so you can really get to know the community and grow into your role.
  • Students can take this role as an internship, with extra mentoring and all the communication your university needs for a placement year or credit.

Safeguarding comes first

Our projects work with children and other vulnerable people, so every volunteer provides a current background check from their home country and completes our first aid and child safeguarding training.
