Who they are

Global Girls Glow

Global Girls Glow is an American organisation dedicated to empowering girls around the world to become strong women and confident leaders.

Its signature programme, GLOW Club, runs in more than 30 countries through local partners like us.

How we work together

We deliver the GLOW Club programme in Huanchaco through five local mentors, who lead clubs in Cerrito, San Carlos, Lomas and Camelias.

Over the three-year programme, almost 150 girls are becoming increasingly confident advocates, with caring mentors who encourage them to express themselves, question and think critically.

  • GLOW ClubsA safe space where girls meet, express themselves freely, get to know themselves and advocate for what they care about.
  • Local mentorsWomen from the community act as role models, adapting the programme to the needs and barriers of each area.
  • Three-year programmeEach year brings five modules, divided into eight sessions, on themes such as relationships, community and girl power.
  • Days that matterSpecial activities mark dates such as International Women's Day and the International Day of the Girl.

The need

Girls held back simply for being girls

WhereCerrito, San Carlos, Lomas and Camelias

Around the world, girls from vulnerable communities are undervalued because of their gender, which limits both their opportunities and their aspirations.

Global Girls Glow's research found that for girls to determine their own futures, they need three things: agency, voice and power. GLOW Clubs are designed to build all three.

What girls need to thrive

Agency, voice and power

  • Agency

Believing you can make choices about your own life, and acting on them.

  • Voice

Knowing what you think, and having the confidence to say it out loud.

  • Power

Advocating for yourself and the issues you care about in your community.

Mentor spotlight

Led by women from the community

Our mentors are women from the communities they serve. Their knowledge of the local context is what makes GLOW work: they adapt every session to the real needs and barriers girls face. For several years they've run clubs across four communities around Huanchaco.
