Long version

Otra Cosa Network (OCN) is a UK registered charity (no. 1133680) and Peruvian NGO (no. 11126841) based in Huanchaco, a fishing and surfing town on Peru’s northern Pacific coast. Its mission is to promote education and social development in local communities; its vision is equal opportunities in Peru for everyone to succeed and thrive.

Led by British-Peruvian couple Juany and Peter Murphy, OCN grew from a small, low-cost volunteer agency into a charity that designs and runs its own programmes, shaped by what the community says it needs. It was registered as a Peruvian NGO in 2009 and as a UK charity in 2010.

Today OCN’s Huanchaco Education and Learning Programme (HELP) delivers English, environmental education, literacy, youth and swimming programmes from its Recreational and Educational Centre in Cerrito de la Virgen, an informal settlement where many families have been displaced by climate change, disaster and political instability. More than 700 volunteers from around the world have joined OCN’s work. HELP Swim is supported by the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation.

Photos

Using photos of our community

Many of our photos show children. Their safety and dignity come first, so we ask everyone who uses our images to follow these guidelines.
  1. Ask first

Only use photos we have supplied to you, for the story we agreed. We only share images for which we hold consent.

  2. Never identify a child

Don’t name, tag or caption children in a way that could identify them, their school, their family or where they live.

  3. Tell it truthfully

Don’t crop, edit or caption images in a way that changes their meaning or portrays people without dignity.

  4. Credit and remove on request

Credit photos to “Otra Cosa Network”, and remove any image promptly if we ask, for example when consent is withdrawn.

Read our safeguarding summary to learn how we protect the children we work with.
