About the role

Working with our Fundraising Manager, you'll help identify donors and funding opportunities, write grant proposals and project funding applications, work with our social media team and organise fundraising events.

It carries more responsibility than our Fundraising Volunteer role, with room to bring your own ideas. It's a key position: staying financially sustainable is what keeps our projects and our work in the community going. You'll have ongoing support and guidance from our field management team throughout.

It's a fantastic opportunity for students on a year abroad or graduates looking for entry-level experience.

What you'll do
  • Create fundraising documents and materials, such as flyers and copy for our website and social media
  • Research new grant opportunities and write applications
  • Maintain and grow our donor database
  • Oversee our monthly project fundraiser
  • Run new one-off events (past events include a fun run, a football tournament and a music night)
  • Build a working knowledge of data protection and privacy rules
  • Learn how UK charity tax reliefs such as Gift Aid work
  • Promote our events and help maintain a positive public image
  • Help prepare quarterly budgets to set our fundraising targets
What we provide
  • Personal pick-up when you arrive, plus a walking tour of Huanchaco
  • Help organising your accommodation in Huanchaco
  • A thorough introduction to OCN and how we work
  • Certified training in first aid and child safeguarding
  • 2 days' holiday per month
  • 24/7 emergency support
  • Organised activities: barbecues, games nights, the weekly volunteer lunch and more
  • A certificate of completion detailing your role, projects and dates
Skills & experience
  • Able to research new grant, foundation and funding opportunities
  • Knowledge or experience of NGO fundraising (desirable)
  • Finance and money-management knowledge (a bonus)
  • Creativity and a proactive approach
  • Networking skills and excellent written and spoken communication
  • Exceptional organisation
Requirements
  • Age 18+ on arrival
  • Spanish: basic helpful, not essential
  • English: advanced or fluent
  • Time commitment: 3 months
  • A current background check from your home country
  • Students can take this role as an internship, with extra mentoring and all the communication your university needs for a placement year or credit.
