Juany grew up in Trujillo, just down the road from Huanchaco. She went on to study in the UK, earning a BA in Sociology, an MA in Education and Human Rights, and an MSc in International Development from the University of Birmingham.
Literacy has always been close to her heart. She started our very first literacy programme with women in Yanasara, in the Peruvian highlands, and later founded HELP Literacy: the LitClubs that began with girls in Cerrito de la Virgen and now welcome boys too.
Beyond Otra Cosa, Juany has worked on several development projects in the region, including helping residents of informal settlements register for national identity cards, a first step to accessing public services.
As Director of International Relations, she leads our partnerships with universities and other institutions across the UK and Europe, and shares responsibility for the growth and strategic direction of the organisation.
